Is there a species called “the Catholic evangelical”? Hans Boersma says “Yes, there is”

‘Can we consider Catholics — at least some Catholics — to be evangelicals?  In other words, is there a species called “the Catholic evangelical”? . . . There are Catholic evangelicals . . . My argument is not that evangelicalism should just relax a little and allow some folks from different traditions to join their ranks.  My argument is just the opposite: it seems to me that contemporary evangelicalism is not nearly as strong in its identity as evangelicals sometimes imagine themselves to be . . . My argument is that, as evangelicals, we need Catholic voices precisely in order to maintain and reinforce our evangelical identity.’ ~ Hans Boersma, Heavenly Participation, Eerdmans, 2011
